May 21, 2005

After getting his laptop screen repaired, Dr. Dave reflects on how the radio program had moved from a stack of papers to real-time Internet research while still depending on his own experience when answering callers. Discussions of browser choices, Christian video games, phishing-site vigilantes and Microsoft finally adding tabs to Internet Explorer capture both the promise and the cultural arguments surrounding technology in 2005. Practical advice includes judging experts by whether they acknowledge disadvantages, keeping multiple backup versions with one copy away from the office and preferring a company that states its limitations honestly over one that promises service and delivers nothing. The brothers also debate whether constant connection creates information overload, remember when Gateway computers seemed to be everywhere and explain that Dr. Dave’s gift was getting into the technical details and then getting back out before listeners became lost.
