June 18, 2005
On Father’s Day weekend, Dr. Dave introduces Evil Steve as his son and later celebrates 23 years of marriage, calling his wife saintly, patient and understanding. Caller Tom asks how much “bull” surrounds Windows Longhorn, prompting a wide discussion of when to buy a computer, why personal autonomy made the PC revolutionary and why consumers had become involuntary beta testers. A major payment card breach leads Dr. Dave to argue that real security must involve company leadership, marketing and operations rather than ending with technical bits and bytes. Elsewhere, Dr. Dave says good advice should respect a caller’s time and frustration, challenges misleading lifetime promises and explains that the show’s mock emergency announcement came from a 1960s Godzilla film after a caller objects to it.
