Dr. Dave describes himself as more competitive with broken software than with people and says he approaches an incompatibility like a bulldog that refuses to be defeated. Personal history runs through remembering a Windows 95 launch event with Evil Steve and Jeff, listening to tapes from his earlier DeskView era, measuring everyday stress against his wife’s work as a trauma nurse and caring more about how his football team plays than whether it wins. Technology history includes an early Slingbox review, Rio leaving the MP3 player business, an Intel engineer candidly describing a rushed dual core processor and Windows Vista trying to prevent a sleeping laptop from overheating inside Dr. Dave’s enormous wheeled briefcase. Returning caller Jim receives a second, careful examination of an unfamiliar download service, while Dr. Dave and Evil Steve admit that their own painful losses are why the office finally learned to keep redundant backups.
