Dr. Dave compares computer security to ordinary maintenance: frustration only hurts the user, while a calm routine keeps the system working. He repeatedly asks whether a solution fits the person using it, from the effort of refilling ink to his own willingness to learn a repair problem the hard way so listeners would not have to. A major technology story examines Sony placing hidden copy protection software on music CDs and shows how poor software can undermine otherwise excellent hardware. The show also looks ahead to cars communicating wirelessly while Dr. Dave and Evil Steve worry that automatic warnings could encourage drivers to pay less attention, and finally explains why Arizona’s clock change caused their studio confusion the week before.
