Dr. Dave recalls one of his sons saying that “Dr. Dave” fits because helping people through technology often makes him more psychiatrist than technician, then reflects that he never planned to enter either computers or radio. Google’s effort to place National Archives films online strikes him as exactly what the Internet is for because it gives ordinary people access to material they could rarely reach before. The show follows Dr. Dave’s accountability after a national computer recommendation, celebrates a Mississippi caller’s humor and resilience after Hurricane Katrina and remembers the Mason family’s childhood burp talking contests. A two part client story shows Dr. Dave staying courteous through absurd customer service rules, finding the phrase needed to reach a supervisor and insisting that a known weak cable signal be repaired before his client spends more money.
