After using the web to diagnose a refrigerator, Dr. Dave says that he and Evil Steve want to attempt unfamiliar jobs themselves if only to understand what they do not know. Wi-Fi Alliance managing director Frank Henslick explains interoperability certification, the risk of buying products before 802.11n was final, wireless networks at different scales and a future in which Wi-Fi moves beyond notebooks into phones, games and home media while disappearing behind a simple connection. Dr. Dave’s response captures his own standard: ignore platform loyalties, use what works, remains affordable and reliable, and gives the needed result rather than demanding a three hundred horsepower dishwasher. The show closes with the fortieth anniversary of Star Trek and a historical tour from VisiCalc making personal computers useful for business to the Morris worm warning of future Internet trouble and an Apollo guidance system operating in only eight kilobytes.
