May 26, 2007

On Memorial Day weekend, Dr. Dave and Evil Steve express an unpayable debt of gratitude to those who gave their lives and to everyone who willingly served. Family-history research produces some of the show's warmest personal material, from learning their uncles' real first names to watching Dr. Dave's boys laugh and jump around together over new discoveries. When a caller explains that she needs a computer to help rescued animals, Dr. Dave refuses to treat her request as asking for something for nothing and uses the break to find local organizations that may help. Elsewhere he questions whether a celebrated low-cost-laptop program is serving children's actual needs, urges adults to put their devices aside and live in the real world with their children, and gives a historically striking assessment of the first iPhone before its release.
