January 5, 2008

The first show of 2008 repeatedly returns to humility and practical judgment. Dr. Dave says a consultant stays hands-on because technical people easily forget that nobody is born knowing what a wireless network requires; the right response is to meet the client where she is, make what she already owns work and move forward. A caller reluctant to leave AOL produces Dr. Dave's distinction between effective and ineffective laziness: solve the root problem once instead of repeatedly repairing a temporary workaround. Elsewhere, he and Evil Steve use fifteen years of flash-memory change and Gene Roddenberry's imagined gadgets to explain why the future cannot really be predicted, while unknown affiliates carrying Computer Talk reveal how far the show had spread beyond the brothers' own records.
