April 19, 2008
The April 19 show repeatedly shows the brothers connecting ordinary life to technology. Evil Steve explains how he bought the air compressor he wanted, sold the bundled tools he did not need on eBay and ultimately paid less while another buyer got a deal too. Dr. Dave then turns a discussion of browser add-ons into a candid warning about constant interruption: check auctions and email at chosen times, do something meaningful first and be honest about how badly supposed multitasking can erode concentration. A caller's corrupted computers give him a chance to separate symptoms from causes and test memory, drives and software before replacing expensive hardware. Later, Dr. Dave remembers a stubborn infection that recognized ComboFix by name; after every sophisticated idea failed, he renamed it FixItAll.exe and got the machine cleaned, laughing that the trick came not from “doctor school” but desperation. The show also records the early Expedition 08 preparations, period Vista criticism and warm closing birthday wishes for the brothers' sister Michele and their mother.
