October 11, 2008

The October 11 broadcast is a portrait of how Dr. Dave evaluated technology and himself. The first Android phone matters because its open design may allow a different future from Apple's controlled model, but he still prefers to let early adopters expose the defects before recommending a purchase. Asked to choose among Windows, Mac and Linux, he starts with the people, clients and work surrounding the caller rather than declaring an abstract winner; he admits that he personally needs both a dependable tool and room to tinker. Security material is equally human: neglect and panic are both dangerous, a legitimate verification page can look fraudulent when support cannot explain it, and even Dr. Dave once clicked a phishing link while distracted and had to correct his own mistake. The show also preserves Woody's memory of urging the brothers toward national radio, a prayer for Dean Barnett, Microsoft extending XP downgrade rights, the continuing usefulness of old equipment and the original website's segmented archive, blog growth and large collection of practical recommendations.
