January 21, 2012
The January 21, 2012 show preserves Dr. Dave’s affection for radio, his family and the patient work of solving hard problems. Returning after the first extended break in nearly twenty years, he says the time away felt strange because he genuinely loved doing Computer Talk. While recounting a difficult repair, he admits reaching the end of his ideas and offers a simple remedy: step away, run, sit outside, ride a bike or sleep, then return with fresh eyes. He also remembers one of the first gifts his wife gave him before they married, a Bob James album chosen because she knew what he loved. A longer political-philosophy discussion argues that both users and law enforcement bear responsibility, and that technological convenience does not remove the need for evidence, due process or doing the right thing.
