November 17, 2012
The November 17, 2012 show combines brotherly humor, practical consulting and unusually prescient technology history. Dr. Dave remembers being six years old and genuinely surprised to see police officers eating at an A&W because he had imagined them as something other than ordinary people; the story becomes a reflection on authority, education, success and shared human fallibility. Looking at industries in upheaval, he says that focusing only on the mess hides the opportunities that change creates. He and Evil Steve also imagine a future in which virtual performers become recognizable entertainment stars, while Windows 8 gives Dr. Dave a concrete example of why a new system must fit the work people actually need to do. The opening Twinkies-as-investment routine captures the brothers at their most playful.
