Dr. Dave remembers telling his sons that games and computers were fine, but childhood also required climbing a tree, getting dirty and actually living rather than watching videos of other people live. A related personal memory returns him and Gina to an early-1980s theater program of Pixar demonstration shorts whose future impact was already astonishing. His fourth-grade mastery of every dinosaur in the encyclopedia becomes a lesson in scientific humility when a favorite reconstruction later changes, and the brothers laugh as listener Robert proves that twenty-five light-years would not have carried the show outside the Milky Way. Near the close, Dr. Dave reveals the patience behind his practical work: a television antenna took perhaps fifteen minutes to build only after six weeks of research.
