Dr. Dave remembers working at the Tucson Racquet and Swim Club, where Arthur Ashe invited an overworked young Dr. Dave to sit down after delivering lunch, and where a remarkable racquetball professional seemed to be Dudley Do-Right brought to life. He and Evil Steve turn a dispute over television commercials into a durable lesson: life is difficult, so accept that reality, control the mental attitude and keep moving. Dr. Dave also explains the standards behind his technology advice—never become a fan of a company, test products on realistically borderline equipment and judge innovation by whether it improves a person's life rather than merely increasing a specification. Those principles lead naturally into Moore's Law and the engineer's apparently modest but powerful idea of making something exactly good enough for its real purpose.
